Event Overview

9th APT Women Kick-off Event

Prior to the implementation of the 9th program, a kick-off event for the 8th class of APT Women will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. in order to boost the activities of women entrepreneurs.

Forty women entrepreneurs who have passed a rigorous screening process will be invited to speak at the event. The event will be open to those interested in entrepreneurship.

Through this program, we hope to create a network of women entrepreneurs and produce world-leading companies from Tokyo.

Furthermore, Ms. Masako Ikehara, CEO of MentorFor Inc., Ms. Rie Kawano, CEO of COGNITEE Inc., Ms. Miwa Tanaka, Co-founder and CEO of Waris Co. Ltd., will be the guest speaker, sharing their own experiences and a message for female entrepreneurs who are aiming to start or expand their businesses in the future.

Rie Kawano

Rie is the CEO and founder of COGNITEE Inc., an artificial intelligence software company based in Tokyo, focusing on context classification. COGNITEE's misson is the "Identify Cognitive Biases with Technology, and Unleash Creativity."
COGNITEE independently develops technologies to analyze logical structures of articles and conversations. The company assists clients with the quantitative analysis of data, such as “high performers,” “good teams” and “productive meetings,” which have been assessed qualitatively. Rie currently leads a global team of over 150 people, who work remotely for data setting and data cleaning.

Rie’s entrepreneurial journey began during her teenage years when she set up a venture dedicated to sports science in the early internet era. Later, she graduated from the Keio University (majoring in business) and went on to work for Sony Corporation, followed by DeNA. While working at Sony, she majored in telecommunication technology from the Tokyo Denki University.

From Rie’s experience working at Sony, she ensures that her organization is also focused on the idea of "increasing intelligent jobs." COGNITEE received the Graylock award at the TechCrunch Disrupt tech conference held at San Francisco in 2018. As a successful woman entrepreneur, it’s no surprise that 80% of the employees in Rie’s company are women.

With a deep-rooted passion for supporting women's professional growth, Miwa embarked on her career as an editorial journalist at Nikkei Business Publications, where she extensively covered women's life and career journeys in the renowned "Nikkei Woman" magazine. Driven by a desire to make a tangible impact, she ventured into the world of freelancing as a writer, editor, and career counselor. This journey culminated in the co-founding of "Waris" in 2013, a pioneering human resources company dedicated to fostering diverse lifestyles and workstyles. As Waris's Co-Founder, she leads a team that connects freelance women with meaningful work opportunities, provides reskilling support for career transitions, and facilitates the placement of women into executive and management positions. At the heart of she work lies an unwavering commitment to gender equality, striving to create a society where "everyone can live authentically." This dedication has earned Waris recognition as a member of the Benesse Group, and she has personally received accolades such as the Grand Prize in the 3rd DBJ Women's New Business Plan Competition and acceptance into the APT Women's 4th Generation Program. She is also a certified career consultant and serve as a Director of the General Incorporated Association of Professional & Parallel Career Freelancers.

The 8th Cohort Accomplishment Report Event

Overview

The 8th APT Women, who started in September 2023 and have completed the domestic and overseas programs, will present the results of the program, including their new visions and unique business plans.
In addition, Ms. Arisa Sakanashi, CEO of mederi Inc. will share her experiences and give a message to those who wish to start or expand their business.

After graduating from Meiji University, she was in charge of marketing and EC operations at a major fashion shopping site and an EC consulting company.After working as a director and COO of web media for women from 2014, she became the company's representative director in 2018 and achieved profitability in one year. Retired at the end of December 2019 due to the expiration of her term.Established mederi Co., Ltd. in 2019, and started service in March 2020 based on her three years of experience in infertility treatment. Developed online pill treatment service “mederi Pill” and fertility support product “mederi Baby”. Selected as one of the "13 projects" of the Maezawa Fund established by businessman Yusaku Maezawa in 2021.

The 8th Pitch Event

In addition to participants from APT Women's 8th terms, entrepreneurs selected as finalists in the "DBJ Women's New Business Plan Competition" sponsored by Development Bank of Japan Inc. will take the stage for a pitch event.


Date and time: Friday, February 22, 2024, 15:00-18:00.

Venue: Tokyo Innovation Base (SusHi Tech Square 2F, 3-8-3 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo)
